Can someone please tell me what I can call my grandmothers sister in Kurmanji? In English we say great aunt but I don’t think there’s a word for that in Kurdish. Is there a respectable word I can call her? She’s also an older lady.

Kurds in the diaspora: When people ask you where you’re from/when you tell people, do they know who Kurds are or what Kurdistan is? I live in the diaspora and the people I’ve told/that ask me, mostly don’t know.

In Kurdistan when girls are born, is there less of a celebration compared to when boys are born? Or if a woman has too many girls is it looked down upon? I know this is the case for some places in the world, but I don’t know about Kurdistan.

Kurdistan is a majority Muslim region. However the people and the leadership appear to be much more secular and liberal compared to many other places in the Middle East. Why is this?
